As she tries to get in the zone before a big match, sophomore Chloe Sumner bounces the ball against the ground, preparing to hit a serve. “ I calm my nerves by talking to my partner and making sure I have a good warmup,” said Sumner. She has big aspirations for this season. “My goals this season are to move my way up the team and get on varsity,” said Sumner. “I would love the chance to prove myself because I know what I can do and I want to show that to the coaches. In the grip of the bungee cord, junior Kayleigh Sidebottom struggles to get to the end of the run before her opponent at the Riley Dance Marathon event on Friday, April 15. "My favorite activity was the bungee run," she said. "I ran against Maddie Campton and Jackie Rodriguez. I was always on the hard one, so I never won any of the races. I was trying to run on the left side and I almost was there; I was basically running in place because the bungee cord had some stretch to it, but it was constantly trying to pull me back. One time, it pulled me back and I flipped over and got smacked into the wall." The RDM Committee raised over $34,000 for Riley Children's Hospital, totally shattering their goal of $20,000. Mixing away, sophomore Olivia Piper Hall makes homemade Cheese-Its in her Nutrition and Wellness class. Hall got to create multiple things like this from scratch that she may utilize within her meal decisions in the future. The class not only taught her how just one ingredient could impact a food, but also how to take care of herself and her overall health. “I believe it is important for teens to take these classes in high school because it will teach you ways to take care of yourself in college and later on in life,” said Hall. “It gives you insight on things you may need to be doing.” Hall said she definitely prepared herself for the future by learning and taking in information from this class. Senior Luke Amos ponders placement of the items on his charcuterie board for a project challenge in Yearbook class. Amos worked with freshman Dawson Martin on a board titled, "Fishing Frenzy," including Swedish fish and other candies, as well as pretzels and chips. Theirs was a sweet/salty board. "When we saw the Swedish fish and the pretzels that looked like logs, we decided it was a raft in the ocean," said Amos. "It all just came together with the chips and the lifesavers. From doing this project, I learned how to come up with ideas with someone I knew. When we put our minds together, it was pretty fun."

With a steady hand, freshman Dominic Alfaro makes a music box in his engineering class. Alfaro was inspired to take the project-based class because he saw himself possibly pursuing a career in that field. But he also took it for the enjoyment he got out of the class. “I feel like when I have fun in that class, it helps for me to pay attention more because it’s stuff that I actually enjoy doing and learning about,” said Alfaro. “Overall, I think it improves my mood when I’m having fun.” Photo by Maddie Faulkenberg
