Our school’s We the People team delivered a phenomenal performance at this year’s National Finals, finishing 14th in the nation out of 48 elite teams. The competition was incredibly tight, with our students finishing just 24 points shy of the Top 10—a razor-thin margin out of 1,800 possible points. In recognition of their outstanding effort, the team was honored with the Division B Award, which celebrates the highest-placing team in our division outside of the Top 10.
We also had three of our six units place in the Top 15 nationally:
Unit 1 — Colin Biehn, Arob Altower, Minha Khan, Cali Jo Messer, Reagan Smith, and Warren Wittenbring — placed 12th.
Unit 2 — Gavin McKeon, Sophia Harris, Kuksoom Raina, Gray Hoepfner, Ian DeGeeter, and Jon Guarnery — placed 8th.
Unit 6 — Zaki Siddiqui, Margaret Lamb, Max Plunkett, Parker Jones, and Hayden Roberts — placed 2nd in the nation, just one point behind the national Unit 6 champions out of Maggie Walker Law School in Virginia.
In a truly historic moment, Unit 6 also received the prestigious Democracy Award. This honor is given to the highest-scoring team on a specific question regarding the upcoming 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Our students achieved a perfect score of 150 out of 150, a feat rarely, if ever, seen at the national level. This perfect score underscores the deep research and civic passion our students brought to the national stage.
We are incredibly proud of every student who participated and represented our school with such distinction. Their success is a testament to their hard work and the unwavering support of our community. Please join us in congratulating these young scholars on their monumental achievements!
