Plainfield Police Chief Kyle Prewitt recently commended several officers for their exceptional dedication, service, and leadership within the community. Their efforts over the past several months highlight the department’s commitment to fostering strong partnerships with Plainfield students and families.

Flag Football Charity Event: A Student Idea Turned Community Celebration
A simple idea from students last August—hosting a flag football game between students and public safety personnel—quickly grew into a major community event thanks to the hard work and determination of Corporal Natalie Groth, Officer Joshua Jellison, and Officer Eric Sugrue.

The goal of the game was to raise funds for a nonprofit organization that trains shelter dogs to become police K9s. Through months of planning, coordination, practice sessions, and problem-solving, the officers helped transform the idea into an inspiring community success. The event drew local news coverage, brought students and first responders together, honored a fallen hero, and ultimately raised more than $5,000 for the cause.

Chief Prewitt praised the officers for their leadership, teamwork, and unwavering commitment, noting that their efforts reflect great credit upon themselves, the department, and the Town of Plainfield.

PHS extends its gratitude to these officers for their ongoing dedication to service—and for helping bring a student-led idea to life in such a meaningful way.
