Deputy Police Chief Joe Aldridge with the book "Strictly No Elephants"

A few years ago, the Sheltering Wings’ men’s group launched Men IN Action READ, where volunteers visited nearly every elementary classroom in Hendricks County to read a book to students, demonstrating their love of reading and the power of reading aloud. They also donated a book to every elementary classroom in the county.

This year, local volunteers delivered the books to schools, and Plainfield elementaries received their books from Deputy Police Chief Joe Aldridge, pictured below. This year’s book selection? “Strictly No Elephants,” which is geared toward helping students develop caring and inclusive friendships.

The mission of Men IN Action is to build positive assets in the young people in our community and, ultimately, to see our region become a safer and stronger place for all.

On behalf of our elementary teachers and students, we’re sending a big THANK YOU to Deputy Chief Aldridge and all of the Men IN Action volunteers.
