Author Micah Johnson Inspires PCMS Students

Students at Plainfield Community Middle School recently had the opportunity to hear an inspiring message about imagination, perseverance, and believing in their own potential during a visit from author and creator Micah Johnson.

Johnson, a former MLB player, spoke with 6th and 7th grade students about the power of dreaming big and refusing to let others define what is possible. His visit centered around his book, Aku: Journey to Ibra, which follows a young boy who dreams of traveling to space and discovering new worlds.

Johnson encouraged students to embrace their individuality and pursue their passions, reminding them that their dreams are worth chasing—even if others don’t immediately understand them.

“Your imagination is powerful,” Johnson told the students. “Don’t let anyone tell you what you can or cannot be.”

Students had the chance to ask questions, learn about Johnson’s creative process, and reflect on how stories like Aku’s can inspire them to think bigger about their own futures.

By the end of the visit, the message was clear: just like Aku, every student has the ability to dream boldly, work hard, and create their own path.

You can find a larger-than-life version of Aku at the newly opened Swarn Park at Hobbs Station. Go check him out!
