The Indiana All-State Honor Choir represents the pinnacle of achievement for choral students across the state. Each year, the top 250 high school vocalists in Indiana are selected for this prestigious ensemble, earning the distinction through a rigorous audition process that tests both technical skill and musical courage.
To qualify, students must perform a challenging prepared piece and complete sight-reading exercises they’ve never seen before—all solo, before a panel of judges. While the process determines choir placement, it also instills valuable lessons in discipline, confidence, and perseverance.
This year, 59 talented students from Plainfield Community School Corporation auditioned for the All-State Honor Choir. Of the 53 total slots available across seven counties and more than 42 high schools in the district, Plainfield students earned 28 positions—the most of any school in Indiana and the highest number in Plainfield’s history.
In fact, Plainfield students make up more than 10% of the entire All-State Honor Choir.

The All-State Honor Choir will travel to Fort Wayne in January to rehearse and perform under the direction of nationally recognized conductor Pearl Shangkuan of Calvin College. The students will spend a full day preparing for their capstone performance—the featured concert of the Indiana Music Educators Association Conference—held at the historic Embassy Theatre on January 17. The concert is free and open to the public.
This marks the fifth consecutive year that Plainfield has led the state in the number of students selected for the All-State Honor Choir—an achievement that reflects the district’s deep commitment to musical excellence and student growth.
