PHS Spanish 4 students spend a day teaching others

Nearly 70 fourth year Spanish students left PHS this morning for a rather unusual field trip. Instead of soaking up information and experiences at a museum or state park, they spent their day in the classroom, teaching young students in all four Plainfield grade schools some basic Spanish.

PHS Spanish teacher, Jamie Nichols explained that this is the third year for the program. The Spanish students plan age-appropriate, interactive lessons and then spend about 30 minutes with a class. Depending on the grade level, lessons varied from counting to identifying colors, animals and articles of clothing.

While the PHS students seemed to be enjoying delivering the lessons, their young counterparts were thoroughly engaged and excited to have 'the big kids' come spend some time with them.
