After a 23-year span that saw numerous changes in education and board governance, School Board member Mark Todisco will lend his talents to another cause. Todisco was named Wednesday evening to complete the Plainfield Clerk-Treasurer term vacated by Wes Bennett, who was recently named Commissioner of the Department of Local Government Finance for the State of Indiana.

One of the stipulations of the Clerk-Treasurer’s role is that individuals may not serve in any other elected capacity, which led to Todisco’s resignation from the School Board, effective yesterday.

Per board policy, the School Board may appoint someone to a vacated position for the remainder of the term. Todisco’s term expires December 31, 2018.

Scott Flood is the board member who has served the longest with Todisco, and he had this to say: “Mark has been a dedicated Board member and enthusiastic champion of Plainfield students’ achievements in academics, athletics, and the arts. He’s played a key role in helping the School Board improve transparency, strengthening the knowledge, pride, and confidence of parents and taxpayers alike.”

Todisco had this to say about the changes: “Resigning from the Plainfield School Board is bittersweet, but I know if there’s a good time to make a change, it’s now.”  He went on to reference some of the things he’s proudest of, including a stronger-than-ever focus on students, and steps that resulted in a more unified Quaker identity.

Plainfield School Board President, Mike Allen, emphasized the passion with which Mark has served stating, “The length of Mark's tenure on the School Board is an incredible accomplishment and a reflection of his love for Plainfield's schools, teachers and students.  He has been a great mentor to me personally, and I will miss serving with him on the Board.”

“On behalf of the school corporation, I want to thank Mark for 23 years of service and commitment,” said Superintendent Scott Olinger. “Much of the success that our students have achieved is a reflection of his caring leadership. And while we will miss his work behind the scenes, he has assured me that he will continue to be an involved supporter of our programs,” he added.
