In appreciation of the ongoing support and partnership we enjoy with the Plainfield Police Department, the Board of School Trustees last week approved a donation to cover the cost of a new K-9 officer.

Citing a long-standing cooperative relationship between the school corporation and the police department, as well as the constantly evolving nature of school security, the board recognized the assistance provided by police officers on a routine basis, as well as an as-needed basis.

“We see our relationship with Plainfield Police Department as a partnership,” explained School Board President Scott Flood, “and they're always ready to help the schools when we need it. We're happy to be able to help them with something that will enhance safety for both the schools and the entire community.”

Accepting the donation on behalf of the police department, Major Carri Weber explained that the entire Plainfield canine unit has been funded by community donations. “We live in a generous community, and support like this means so much to us.”

The new canine unit will be trained in explosives, adding even more depth to the existing team.
