Beginning in the 2019-2020 school year, we will be assigning every PCMS student a computer to use throughout the school day and at home. We believe that this one student, one computer program (like the one-to-one program at PHS) will help students:

  • Improve academic achievement,
  • Use the internet and computer media to communicate and work together,
  • Use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, and solve problems, and
  • Help students learn to use technology safely and responsibly.

There are many positive reasons for taking this step, and yet we know there will be many questions. As we move through this process over the next 18 months, we will communicate with you frequently so you always know what is going on.

When we implemented one-to-one at the high school, we were able to do so without increasing costs to most families; we hope to do the same in this case.

This is a very big step; one that offers great promise for PCMS students as we pair modern learning tools with the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful in the 21st century. We will emphasize problem solving, communication, and collaboration skills, preparing children for success as adults.

This will be a great way to keep up with decisions about the one-to-one program at PCMS. We will update the Q&A document as details are finalized.
