Everything I need to know, I learning in Journalism - the them for the IHSPA 2018 Convention

The Indiana High School Press Association held its annual convention last month. The two-day event, held at Franklin College, includes workshops, on-site contests, keynote speakers and the association’s annual awards ceremony. Fifty Indiana high schools belong to the IHSPA, with members falling into one of three divisions based on high school student enrollment. PHS belongs to Division 2.

Plainfield students received 13 awards, including being named a 2018 Hoosier Star Finalist for both the school newspaper and yearbook. In addition, the program received first place awards for Advertising, the Maestro Package, Academic Spread, Album Spread and Feature Photo.

Plainfield High School offers a Publications class, with most students also spending many hours after-school on work related to the publication of the monthly newsmagazine, “The Quaker Shaker,” and/or the yearbook, “Silhouettes.”

Students at PHS have produced relevant, award-winning publications for decades, with the program well-known throughout the state for its high standards. That trend continues with today’s students who show great passion, knowledge and dedication for their work.

Congratulations to the Plainfield High School Publications Staff!
