Broadway comes to Plainfield!

Third grade students from Van Buren Elementary and Central Elementary have been busy! In all, 250 students presented four performances of Seussical, Jr. the week of May 14th.

Miss Charisse Angell, music teacher, gladly took on the enormous task of Cast and Music Director for the production of Seussical Jr. when the opportunity arose. Angell had imagined presenting the musical for several years, but the cost had deterred her from purchasing. Last spring she applied and was awarded a grant from the Legacy Foundation of Plainfield Schools to purchase rights to produce the musical.

Students gathered for the TEAM Awards convocation to honor students from each classroom that exemplified TEAM behavior. TEAM students consistently:

Try challenging work.

Even when the work is hard, don't give up.

Always care for and respect others.

Make Van Buren a better place.

The award winners receive a special TEAM t-shirt. All students received TEAM certificates throughout the grading period when teachers noted them modeling one of the TEAM traits.

Van Buren students put on their hats for tornado victims

On Friday, March 16th, 277 students paid $1 to wear a hat with the proceeds going to relief for families affected by the tornados this spring in southern Indiana.

Van Buren 3^rd grade students perform well on the IREAD3 test. At least 99% of Van Buren 3^rd grade students will move on to 4^th grade!

Money Raised for Riley

Van Buren 2nd and 3rd grade students raised almost $4400 for Riley Hospital during Van Buren Elementary's annual Bowl-a-Thon. Around 90 students, many parent volunteers, teachers, and student Ambassadors joined effort to pull off the charity event.
