Plainfield High School is pleased to announce that Sidra Ahmad and Bree Hall have been named Commended Students by the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program. Sidra and Bree are being recognized for exceptional academic promise and outstanding performance on the qualifying exam.

More than 1.6 million students nationwide took the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) in October of 2015. Last spring, the 50,000 highest scorers were identified, while 16,000 of those will go on to compete for Merit Scholarships.

As two of the 34,000 Commended Students, Sidra and Bree placed among the top five percent of students who took the PSAT/NMSQT.

“We are extremely proud of the academic success these two young women have achieved,” stated PHS Principal Mel Siefert. “But the true test of their character and personalities is reflected in their leadership and involvement in many of our student activities, in addition to their success in the classroom.”

“The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” according to a spokesperson for the NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in the academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
