High Fives for Heroes Parade at Central

Today was a special day at Central Elementary! We remembered 9/11 with a moving speech from Principal Thacker and had our first High Fives for Heroes Parade. As students lined the halls with flags and handmade artwork, local police, firemen, EMTs and those who served or are serving in the military walked through the halls to receive high five and cheers from our students.

In her tribute Mrs. Thacker told students, "As we look back on the past 15 years, I realize that you, as students, were not even born when 9/11 took place. For you, this is just a story in history. You may have seen pictures on tv or heard your parents talk about what they were doing when the twin towers collapsed. For many of the staff, it is a day that will never be forgotten and a day that has impacted our lives forever. We recognize this day not only to remember those who lost their lives, but to recognize the impact everyday people had on helping save the lives of thousands of people. We pay respect today, so that we do not go on living our own lives without stopping to recognize what is important."
