As we wrap up the last hours in the school corporation's pre-Christmas fervor, it seems like an appropriate time to reflect on the many successes of the first semester.
Elementary students flocked to join new after-school activities, and they will have even more opportunities when the Math Bowl process begins next semester. Our Robotics programs are providing wonderful experiences for students and the support of our teachers and parents has made it all the more successful.
At the middle school, students have excelled academically and athletically, and the Fine- and Performing Arts programs have been equally impressive. Our Orchestra, in just its first semester, has performed numerous times, and the adults have been left saying, "those kids just picked up the violin/cello/bass a few months ago?" Yes, except for two violinists, these are students new to strings. What a great story!
PHS students have also made us proud in every way. The "We The People" team finished state runner-up and will go on to compete nationally. Numerous clubs tackled challenging goals of serving others, and their hard work and determination paid off. From a coat drive to canned food to Christmas gifts, our students have huge hearts and a tireless work ethic.
We talk a lot about the Community of Values program, and of course, Kindness is December's value. From the kindness chains decorating the hallways in many buildings, to the many, many acts of kindness happening in each and every school, we are graced by students, teachers, staff and parents who always find a way to ease the path for those who might be stumbling.
For some people, the Christmas season brings pain and sadness. Throughout the halls of Plainfield schools, however, kindness, joy and excitement have been evident. As we pause to celebrate the holidays, and as students and teachers prepare for a new semester, we hope your hearts are filled with the same kindness, joy and excitement that we get to see every day. And we wish you the Merriest Christmas, the Happiest Hanukkah, the best holiday or simply, the best time away from school. And may you enjoy a safe, and happy, new year.
